Core Functions
A | Weekly Meetings
During our weekly meetings we have a variety of activities: market trend discussions, stock pitches, company recruitment visits, sustainable finance-related lectures, company recruitment visits, upperclassmen student panels.
B | Stock Pitches
Working in group of 5-7, you will apply what you have learned in our curriculum pitch a company to be added to our portfolio. You will learn to conduct company research, develop an investment thesis, build a DCF model, and refine your presentation skills.
C | Curriculum
We have a unique dual-curriculum. In finance you will learn accounting, valuation, M&A, etc. In sustainability, you will learn environmental, social, governance (ESG) principles. By the end of the year, you will be able to evaluate a company on financial and ESG metrics.
D | Internal Groups
1
Public Fund
Our Public Fund Group is responsible for managing our fund. After a company is pitched, the Public Fund will review and make a final decision to invest (or not invest) in the company. This group also reviews the quality of pitches — including the presentation and the model.
2
Impact
Our Impact Group focuses on expanding SIG’s reach into the community by leveraging our member’s to help solve business problems. Each semester, we engage with a different sustainability or social impact company and support their mission. During this time members work to serve our “client” typically in the form of research proposals.
3
Research
Our Research Group conducts both internal and external research. Over the past few years, SIG members have developed internal report on a range of topics (ex. electric vehicle last-mile delivery). We have also begun partnering with UT professors to conduct published research
4
Operations
Our Operations Group is responsible for much of the upkeep of our organization. This can range from social media/website work to planning socials to coordinating our Sustainability Symposium. Operations members get the chance to see what it is like to maintain a student organization and receive significant leadership opportunities.
